The Antelope in the Living Room by Melanie Shankle

Book description:

Welcome to the story of a real marriage.

Marriage is simultaneously the biggest blessing and the greatest challenge two people can ever take on. It is the joy of knowing there is someone to share in your joys and sorrows, and the challenge of living with someone who thinks it’s a good idea to hang a giant antelope head on your living room wall.

In The Antelope in the Living Room, New York Times best-selling author and blogger Melanie Shankle does for marriage what Sparkly Green Earrings did for motherhood—makes us laugh out loud and smile through tears as she shares the holy and the hilarity of that magical and mysterious union called marriage.

My review:

Before I started reading this book, I knew it would make me laugh because Shankle is gifted at finding and expressing the humor in most of life’s situations. I was not disappointed.  This book offers laughs in every chapter as Melanie describes her marriage and the blending of two people into one life.

The best part about this book is that even though each marriage is different, there are some characteristics that are universal.  Shankle focuses on the humor in them, even if they are not particularly funny at the moment they happen.  I love the way she differentiates between Old Love and New Love because it is so true.  Things are vastly different in the land of Old Love than in the land of New Love – not better or worse, just different.

If you are looking for a book to make you laugh and brighten up your day, this is the book for you, especially if you are married.  This is a very funny book!
