The Blessings of Friendship, created by New York Times bestselling author and artist Mary Engelbreit, is a playful and poignant treasury of poetry, Bible verses, and quotes that celebrate the joy of friendship. Children will learn from timeless sayings and poems what it means to be a friend—helping, encouraging, listening, sharing with, and loving one another. Colorful and whimsical illustrations bring these words to life, as children learn the value of friendship. Verses from the Bible give us instruction on putting others above ourselves, loving each other, and being kind to one another. This book will make you smile with each turn of the page, remembering old friends and new friends alike.
This book has a lot of WOW factor! When it arrived in the mail, I was surprised at the size of it because a lot of these types of books are pocket-sized or novelty-sized. This one is a beautiful hardcover about 8 by 11 inches.
When I showed my daughter, her first reaction was “Wow” too and she sat right down and looked through the entire thing. It is not the easiest thing to get that kind of excitement over a book from a teenager!
The illustrations are what make this book. Each page could be savored, observing all the little details of the drawings. Englebreit’s whimsical drawings of children are cheerful and a celebration of friendship. The verses, poems, and proverbs are nice and all related to friendship, but for me, the book is great because of the beautiful illustrations!
This is a great book to give as a gift to the special friend or friends in your life. It would make an especially great gift for someone going through a difficult time because the illustrations are so cheerful and uplifting. It will bring a smile to their face!
