Sacred Sex by Tony Evans

“Sex isn’t everything that the world makes it out to be.  It’s more”

Pastor Tony Evans offers a short, straightforward look into the true meaning of sex.  He disputes the cheapened imitation we see everywhere on TV, in movies and magazines, and in popular culture.  He explores the meaning in the original Hebrew language to demonstrate to readers why sex, and the way we use it, is so important.

This is a very short book, only about 70 pages, that is packed with relevant information.  My favorite part of it was when Evans shared the Hebrew word, yada, and what it means.  Yada, using the Law of First Mention, means to know and to be made known, to reveal oneself, to cause to know, and to know by experience.  I loved his analogy of sharing a secret and sex.  For example, when we share a secret, we lean in close and whisper so as to not be heard.  However, how do you not keep a secret?  Share it with others.  I think that analogy is a wonderful tool to use in talking about the sacredness of sex.

This is a great resource for singles, married couple, and parents looking for a way to teach their children about sex in a real way.  It is impossible to tell our children to abstain and expect them to agree, without providing them solid information to back up our plea.  This book offers a lot of information to share with them about why it is vitally important to abstain.

Pastor Evans shows a lot of insight into the different ways men and women relate to sex and also explains marital duty in a way that makes sense.  1 Corinthians 7:3 tells us – “The husband must fulfill his duty to his wife, and likewise also the wife to her husband.”  So we have a duty to meet one another’s needs, but what does that look like?  Evans explains very well the different needs of men and women.  He is funny at times, too.

If you are are looking for a resource to increase your understanding of sex and the way God intended it, this is the book for you.  It is a quick read that will take about an hour of your time, but will have lasting effects.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Moody Publishers in exchange for my honest review.  All opinions are my own.
