Parenting with Scripture by Kara Durbin

This book is a A-Z topical guide to assist parents in teaching biblical principles to their children.  Some topics covered include responsibility, forgiveness, discipline, complaining, and humility.  Each topic is presented in the same way; readers are given a definition, several bible verses, discussion questions, and then an action plan.

Although this book is presented as a topical guide for teachable moments, in the introduction it discusses other uses for the book that I think are just as effective.  One of the suggestions is as a topical devotional guide for the child or the whole family.  I think it would be a good devotional guide for anyone.

I really enjoyed reading through this book.  I thought the referenced verses were relevant and applicable, yet familiar and easy to understand.  I appreciated that the discussion questions were straight-forward and easy to use with children and the Take Action section was easy to implement.  I also thought the length of each study topic was well-suited to a busy parent’s schedule or a child’s shorter attention span.

This would be an excellent book for parents to use together so they are on the same page when addressing behavior problems with their children.  It would also be a great study book for a mom’s group to study and practice scenarios so they are prepared when presented with a teachable moment with their children.  It would also make a great gift to new parents.

I highly recommend this book for any parent who is committed to teaching biblical principles to their children.  It is an easy-to-use, handy guide.

I received a copy of this book from Moody Publishers in exchange for my honest review.  All opinions are my own.
