10 Great Dates: Connecting Faith, Love & Marriage by Peter and Heather Larson & David and Claudia Arp

The Larsons and Arps take couples on a journey through 10 dates to draw them closer together, closer to God, and help them build their relationship on a firm foundation so they are able to weather the storms of life.

I think this book would be helpful for couples whether their relationships are strong or struggling.  If their marriage is strong, I think this book would strengthen it even more, and if it is struggling, this book might help repair it.  The idea behind each date is that each partner completes a pre-date exercise before the date so they are prepared to communicate during the date.  The exercises are short enough that they can be completed even in the midst of busy life, but thorough enough to explore issues that might be interfering with the relationship.

I love the fact that these dates don’t have to be big, expensive nights out.  A date is a time set aside to communicate each other.  I also really liked the discussion chapters for each partner to read before completing the pre-date exercise and the post-date spiritual discovery.  I think this is a great book that could really help heal a lot of rocky marriages, or strengthen solid marriages.

The only criticism I have for the book is that it is difficult to go from the chapters to the pre-date exercises in the ebook version.  I had to search around a bit to find the corresponding pre-date exercise to each chapter.  It would have been helpful to have a page number to jump right to that page.  However, it is nice that the authors provided two copies of the pre-date exercise pages in the book.  I would just recommend that readers purchase the print copy of this book.

I recommend this book for any couple that wants to deepen their relationship with each other and God.  The ideas in each chapter are clearly explained and demonstrate what a wonderful marriage looks like.  If you want to be closer to your spouse, give this book a try!

I received a copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest review.  All opinions are my own.
