Raising a Lady in Waiting by Jackie Kendall

Raising a Lady in Waiting is a mother’s guide to preparing a daughter to wait for God’s best, a Boaz not a Bozo.  Using the story of Ruth’s journey from the book of Ruth, Kendall encourages mothers and daughters to prepare for dating relationships before they come to pass to avoid common pitfalls in dating.

This is an excellent book!  I think it should be given to each mother as she is discharged from the hospital with a daughter so she has time to prepare and review each chapter well before her daughter is interested in boys, especially in our culture.  Kendall discusses relationships, sex, and different expectations of boys and girls in a down to earth and matter of fact manner.  Although these topics can be difficult to discuss with daughters, I love the way Kendall uses her personal stories of not only discussing them with her daughter, but also her daughter’s friends, other young women, and their mothers.

I think this topic is too important and fraught with dangers and pitfalls not to get it right for our girls!  Kendall offers a tangible, users guide to help.  I’ve never read her book Lady in Waiting, but I will be sure to check into it and get it for my daughter.

I can’t recommend this book highly enough.  Every mother with a girl should read it and maybe even mothers with boys so they can be prepared for discussions with girlfriends of their boys!  Please mothers, read this book!

Thanks to Net Galley for providing me with a copy of this book for review purposes.  All opinions are my own.
