The Language of Blessing by Joseph Cavanaugh III

I anticipated this book discussing spiritual gifts and how we might use those to bless others, so I think I approached it from the wrong state of mind.

I think this book serves as a good reminder that we are all blessed with gifts and talents.  However, I’ve read other books similar to this that covered similar material such as parenting styles (permissive, authoritative, uninvolved, and authoritarian) with similar discussion.  I would have been interested in more specific examples of how to bless others and in more examples of people from his program and how their lives changed after discovering their gifts.  Perhaps that could be a follow-up book?

Despite the overall negative tone of this review, I will state that the book is engaging and Cavanaugh uses a friendly tone throughout the book.  If you have not read a book on this subject before or if you want a refresher, this would be a great book for you.  It served as a great reminder that we are all created by God with special talents and gifts, but I would have loved more real life examples of people discovering their gifts.
